Now a high school student, Takuya tries to keep a low profile. After all, he was criticized more than once during middle school for his love of manga and anime.
Despite this, he hasn’t given up. He knows what he enjoys, even though he’s aware that others don’t like it or think it’s strange, so he avoids talking to them as much as possible.
After a seat swap, Takuya ends up sitting behind Kotoko, a classic “gal”, very popular among the other students. Her best friend is named Kei; they say she used to be a model, and she looks like one for sure.
While Takuya is looking at a limited-edition eraser, Kotoko asks to use it. Takuya jumps up and tells her not to, since he wants it for his collection.
Upon seeing it, Kotoko asks about the series, and Takuya thinks it might be a trap, and that he might end up looking ridiculous. Meanwhile, Kei starts talking about the series, and when they look at her in surprise, she says it’s because of her younger sister.
However, she reveals several details that even Takuya didn’t know and thinks that Kei might also be an anime fan. When he dares to ask her, she vehemently denies it, but when Takuya shows her another collectible, she gets incredibly excited.
Then, Takuya notices a very unique brooch in Kei’s backpack, and she finally admits that she loves the series. At that moment, Kotoko surprises them and misunderstands her words.
And although the girls treat him well, Takuya believes that girls as popular as them will eventually end up criticizing him. As they leave, he overhears the group planning to go to karaoke, and Takuya knows that’s not the place for him.
Instead, he goes to a large store to look for a figure he wants, and to his surprise, he runs into Kotoko and Kei, who already has a mystery box like the one he wants.
When he tries to walk away from the girls, they both approach him and ask him to buy a similar box, and if a certain figure comes out, to trade it with each other.
Can an otaku be friends with a couple of popular girls?
(オタクに優しいギャルはいない!?)
