Sasaki is a weary office worker whose stressful routine is brightened by one small pleasure: visiting the local supermarket after work.
There, he always tries to be attended by Yamada, a cheerful cashier whose warm smile and friendly attitude become the highlight of his busy day.
One evening, after another exhausting shift, Sasaki arrives hoping to see Yamada, only to discover that her shift has already ended.
Disappointed, he steps outside looking for a place to smoke, since the supermarket no longer allows smoking near its entrance he is quickly criticized.
Until a mysterious young woman, Tayama, invites him to join her in a hidden smoking area behind the building.
Although Tayama has a playful attitude, dresses casually, and teases Sasaki throughout their conversation, she quickly puts him at ease.
They begin chatting about work, everyday frustrations, and the little comforts that help people get through difficult days.
Their easygoing chemistry makes the encounter feel surprisingly natural, despite Sasaki believing they’ve never met before.
Tamaya asks him why he is so interested in Yamada, and Sasaki doesn’t hesitate to tell her he simply enjoys her friendly attitude.
Unbeknownst to him, Tayama is actually Yamada wearing different clothes and presenting a completely different personality outside of work.
Amused that Sasaki fails to recognize her, she decides to keep her identity a secret, enjoying the freedom of interacting with him without the polite customer-employee barrier.
