In a remote mountain town, the Mizokiya family has traditionally been responsible for managing the surrounding mountain.
Deep in the forest lies an area known as the Accursed Land, a forbidden place that people are warned never to enter. At its center stands an ominous shrine, and local stories claim that anyone who ventures inside risks being cursed—or even losing their life.
So, what happens when two fearless siblings wander into the forbidden mountain during a violent storm and come face-to-face with a terrifying god of curses?
Despite the terrifying reputation surrounding the forbidden area, Hinata and Kaoru aren’t exactly the type to let a little superstition stop them.
On a night of the torrential rain, they become worried about their grandfather, Hyo-go, who finds out that the mountain shrine has been swept by the debris.
Rather than simply staying home and waiting, Hinata and Kaoru decide to go looking for him. And their search leads them directly into the forbidden territory.
The rain is relentless, visibility is poor, the forest is ominous, and the children have entered a place they have been explicitly warned to avoid.
Then they encounter the creature said to inhabit the mountain: Yamatagi-Madara, a gigantic supernatural being with a serpent body and a frightening appearance.
She is not simply some ordinary monster, either—she is a “tatari-gami”, a god associated with curses and calamity. A person who was betrayed and claims vengeance
However, instead of screaming and running for their lives, Hinata and Kaoru are remarkably unfazed by their terrifying discovery.
Rather than treating Yamatagi-Madara as an ancient supernatural threat, they quickly become interested in her. And before long, they give her the much friendlier nickname Dara-san.
Instead of the children desperately trying to escape the monster, Dara-san finds herself being approached by two remarkably fearless siblings who want to know her story.
