For the daughter of a powerful demon, existence has been relatively easy; having always been pampered, Kanan has grown increasingly demanding.
Gluttonous like her father, she has lately found that food just doesn’t taste the same to her—it simply seems to lack any flavor. Consequently, one day she informs her father that she has decided to venture into the human world to devour souls.
Her father tells her that he, too, did the very same thing once, and suggests she might just discover something new. However, he asks Kanan if she has ever shared a meal with anyone before; she replies that she never has.
Kanan immediately transfers to a high school, and thanks to her innate abilities, she quickly begins to stand out—to such an extent that she ends up being appointed the school’s head of discipline.
From this privileged position, Kanan begins to observe the development of the other students’ souls—essentially watching them grow just as she would her own livestock.
One morning, someone catches her eye: Youji’s soul looks incredibly appetizing, and Kanan decides to summon him.
Standing before him, the girl begins to tell him that she wants to devour him. Any normal teenager would surely misunderstand such words—and Youji is no exception.
As things take a strange turn, he assures her that he would never force her to do anything she didn’t want to do. However, he then tells her that he likes her and asks her out.
Somewhat bewildered, Kanan agrees—though she doesn’t understand exactly what he means. Youji is being completely sincere, yet every time he says something to Kanan, the girl only becomes more confused.
At least, during what turns out to be their first date, Youji shares with her a croquette that holds a very special significance for him. And to Kanan’s surprise, it tastes absolutely delicious—though she has no idea why.
