Kuroe has been dealing with a strange condition since childhood. Whenever her emotions become too intense, parts of her body can transform into something monstrous.
Kuroe desperately wants to live an ordinary life, but has spent years hiding from other people because she is afraid to be rejected. And her experiences have left her convinced that nobody could ever accept her if they discovered the truth.
Now in high-school, she keeps to herself, avoids attention, and is treated as something of an oddity by her classmates.
She spends much of her time drawing and listening to music, using these distractions to keep her emotions under control.
But her carefully controlled existence begins to fall apart when Arata, one of the most popular boys, starts talking to her.
Kuroe assumes there must be some ulterior motive behind his interest. She cannot understand why someone like Arata would genuinely want to spend time with her, and immediately attempts to push him away only seem to make him more curious.
Things become even more complicated when Arata invites Kuroe out to eat some fancy pancakes. For Kuroe, something as simple as spending time with Arata is an emotional minefield.
She tries desperately to remain calm, but her feelings continue getting stronger. The happiness she experiences is something she never had, and her body begins responding to those emotions in increasingly obvious ways.
The situation reaches a breaking point when Kuroe and Arata encounter some of their classmates. The girls assume that Kuroe is somehow following Arata, but he immediately stands up for her.
Arata takes Kuroe by the hand and Kuroe’s emotions spiral out of control.
Her hand begins transforming, and terrified, Kuroe runs away and as soon as she reaches a bridge, her transformed body becomes too powerful to control.
What emerges is no longer a frightened high-school student, but a gigantic kaiju that sends Tokyo into chaos.
