After leaving pretending her death, Chloe crosses into the Ashbury Kingdom and assumes the identity of Victoria, a woman who has been missing for years.
Now, she wants to leave her former existence behind and discover what it means to live according to her own choices.
After arriving in the capital, she becomes involved in a purse-snatching incident. which brings her in contact with a little girl sitting alone on a bench.
At first, she simply walks past, assuming someone will come for the child. When she returns later, however, the girl is still there. Victoria approaches her and learns that her name is Nonna, and understands that her mother has abandoned her.
Victoria takes Nonna to the authorities, but she cannot bring herself to simply walk away. Although she originally intends to help the girl only temporarily, spending the night together changes something in her.
Victoria begins thinking about Nonna’s future and ultimately decides that she wants to take responsibility for her herself.
She discovers that finding suitable accommodation while caring for a child is not particularly easy. Even with all her experience as a secret agent, building an ordinary life turns out to be a challenge.
In the meantime, Victoria meets Jeffrey, an honest and dependable commander of the knight order, who becomes involved and agrees to act as Victoria’s guarantor.
