Maria is the daughter of a duke, and practically her entire life has been spent preparing to inherit her father’s dukedom, resulting in an unconventional upbringing for a lady.
Maria is an expert in martial arts, and let’s just say that noble etiquette isn’t her strongest trait. One day, during one of her training sessions, she receives the news that her mother has given birth to a baby boy.
In a house full of women, the arrival of the child is a very important event, and Maria is the first to rejoice; however, after so many years, now she feels the pressure to find a partner and get married.
So, after some time, she decides to search, somewhat desperately, in another city. She turns to Aida, her best friend, who, due to political circumstances, has become engaged to Renato, the crown prince.
When they meet, the girls reminisce about when they lived together and how Maria helped Aida. Because of this, her friend feels it is her duty to help her now.
At the school they both attend, Aida introduces María to Placido, Renato’s younger brother. It’s immediately clear they’ve known each other since childhood.
When Renato walks by, Plcido tries to get his attention to introduce him to María, but Renato says he’s very busy. Aida remarks that it’s always the same.
Days later, a ball is held, and Aida prepares María to be presented. On the way, they see a broken-down carriage. Inside is Eleonora, a rival of Aida’s, who refuses their help.
Later, Eleonora appears, escorted by Renato, causing a stir among everyone. The commotion intensifies when the prince angrily approaches María, whom he has mistaken for Aida.
Renato unleashes his fury and demands to end their engagement immediately. María doesn’t remain silent and humiliates the prince for not even knowing who his fiancée is.
