Kaboku has suffered from a stutter for years and generally prefers to keep a low profile.
In a middle school activity, his group has to perform a choreographed dance. When the teacher shows the recorded dance to the students, Kaboku notices that he, in particular, is out of sync, leading him to believe everyone is laughing at him.
Now that he’s started high school, he’d prefer to stay out of the spotlight, but because of his height, his friends invite him to play basketball, and he turns out to be quite good at passing.
While they’re deciding whether to join any clubs, Kaboku notices a dance club, and Hikari, a cute girl, seems very interested.
Days later, during a joint class, Kaboku ends up sitting next to Hikari, and they have to exchange tests, grade them, and give each other feedback.
Despite his shyness and stutter, Hikari doesn’t say a word, which puts Kaboku at ease.
Later, Kaboku is walking across campus when he sees Hikari in front of a large glass window, which she uses as a mirror, and she starts dancing.
He remembers what happened to him in middle school, but despite that, he thinks she’s a very good dancer. The next day, one of his classmates shows him a video of Hikari dancing, but he hesitates to say anything.
Kaboku can’t get Hikari’s image out of his mind, and when his friend shares the video in a group chat, he feels embarrassed and annoyed.
The following morning, when his friend asks him why he didn’t say anything about the video, Kaboku asks him to delete it, saying it’s not right. And although his friends don’t understand what the problem is, they decide to delete it.
At that moment, something happens to Kaboku, and he runs to find Hikari to ask her for advice on her dance moves and tells her he wants to join the dance club.
