Gol D. Roger, the King of the Pirates, has been captured and is about tolose his life, however, his final words ignite a global pirate era.
By declaring that his legendary treasure—the One Piece—is real and waiting to be claimed, Roger inspires countless dreamers to take to the seas in search of glory, freedom, and fortune.
Then we shift to a small seaside village, where we meet Monkey D. Luffy, a cheerful, reckless, and endlessly optimistic boy with one very clear dream: to become the next King of the Pirates.
Luffy idolizes pirates, especially Shanks, the laid-back but powerful captain of the Red-Haired Pirates. Shanks and his crew are regulars in the village, and while they appear carefree and fun-loving, it is clear that they are no pushovers when danger arises.
One day, Luffy accidentally eats the Gum-Gum Fruit, a mysterious Devil Fruit that gives him the ability to stretch his body like rubber, at the cost of never being able to swim again.
This mix of power and sacrifice becomes a defining trait of him. Later, when Luffy is kidnapped by a bandit and thrown into the sea, Shanks saves him at great personal cost, losing an arm in the process.
This act leaves a lasting impression on Luffy and cements his resolve to grow strong enough to protect others.
Now, Luffy sets out to sea on his own adventure. Shanks entrusts him with his treasured straw hat—a symbol of promise and ambition—and tells him to return it once he’s become a great pirate.
With that simple gesture, One Piece establishes its emotional core: dreams, friendship, sacrifice, and the courage to chase freedom no matter the odds.
A long journey is ahead, lighthearted and humorous on the surface, but deeply heartfelt underneath. It’s the beginning of an epic voyage that will span oceans, friendships, and generations.
