Another school year begins, and Akihito believes everything is aligned for a simple, uneventful year—he just needs a normal teacher to lead the class.
Just as that thought crosses his mind, a knock sounds at the classroom door; it opens, and a young teacher walks in, her face smeared with blood, muttering incoherently.
Her name is Hiyori. Most students have heard of her—rumors say she is terrifying, and some even claim she casts curses on her students.
Her formal introduction takes place in silence; in truth, no one understood a word Hiyori said to them. Later, Akihito returns to the classroom and is surprised to find Hiyori speaking aloud—and, this time, she is perfectly intelligible.
As he watches and listens, he sees that she is talking to a collection of stuffed animals; he wonders if it might be some sort of ritual or something similar. But in reality, the teacher is simply rehearsing her lesson.
Everything seems normal; however, Hiyori lacks the stamina to continue. When she attempts to take a deep breath, she nearly faints. To prevent her from injuring herself, Akihito rushes over and catches her.
Whether due to her lack of energy or her general absent-mindedness, Hiyori fails to notice that she frequently exposes her underwear. Days later, this happens again while she attempts to exercise in a pair of tight sweatpants from her high school days.
The quiet days Akihito had hoped for are now a thing of the past; he simply cannot stand by and watch Hiyori struggle day after day while the rest of his classmates continue to view her as a terrifying figure.
Akihito volunteers to become class president—a decision that leads him to witness something completely unexpected from Hiyori: a truly momentous event.
