Miyo’s childhood seemed perfect, but the day her mother died, slowly, everything started to change.
Her father, head of a noble family, did not hesitate to protect her. At least until he decided to get married once again. A short time later, Kaya was born and the comparisons began.
One day, the two girls were called by their father, who ordered them to enter a dark room, lit by numerous candles.
Without much explanation, he told the girls that their family has a very special gift, and that if they could see what he was about to release out of a box they would verify they have it.
Kaya was immediately surprised, to the point of being scared to see a creature approaching her. But Miyo could only watch as her younger sister was terrified.
From that moment on, Miyo stopped being cared by her father, and taking advantage of it, her stepmother did not hesitate to make her life miserable from that moment on.
Kaya, grew up spoiled, and became an arrogant and conceited young woman.
Despite being the daughter of a noble, Miyo ended up being part of the mansion’s servants, and only when her childhood friend Kouji visited her would she genuinely smile.
Growing up, Kouji understood what Miyo was going through, and somehow wanted to help her. When he told his father, he tried to approach Miyo’s father to allow them to get engaged and marry in the future.
But as the head of an important family, Miyo’s father decided that Kaya was meant to becime Kouji’s fiancée. At the time of informing the news to Miyo, her father also told her she was also meant to get married, and ordered her to leave the house at dawn to go live immediately with her fiancée.
Depressed, Miyo realized that she has been abandoned by her father, and that if she did not want to end up on the street, she would have to strive to be useful to Kiyoka, a fearsome soldier and leader of the noble Kudou family.
The first meeting is terrifying, Kiyoka is reputed to have rejected many maidens before, accusing them to be with him just to gain status and wealth.
Miyo struggles to serve Kiyoka, and the next day she prepares him breakfast, only to be accused of wanting to poison him.
Fortunately, Yurie, a servant who raised Kiyoka since his childhood, offers her support, and at the same time asks Kiyoka to be more understanding.
Finally, Kiyoka himself asks Miyo to prepare his meals, while he wonders why a nobleman’s daughter knows how to serve him as she does, and why her hands and clothes look so worn out.
