After ten years, a group of heroes have defeated the king of demons.
Himmel, Heiter, Eisen and Frieren return exhausted but satisfied to the capital of the kingdom, where they are welcomed with a big party. The king promises to celebrate them with a great reward and statues to be remembered forever.
On their side, Himmel and Heiter, the humans in the group, are worried about their future, since they both must do something to survive the rest of their lives, they will look to find a job really soon.
Frieren is an elf, and because she ages slowly, she fails to understand the nostalgia her companions feel when finishing their work. Ten years have passed, but for her they don’t mean so much, at least not to make her depressed.
At night, at the end of the party, the four observe a strange meteor shower, which can be observed every 50 years. Himmel regrets that they cannot see it in all its glory, and Frieren tells them that she knows of a place where they could see it next time.
Thus, the four decide to meet again to observe the stars. Meanwhile, Frieren decides to continue researching and learning new magical spells.
After 50 years, Frieren returns to the city in search of Himmel. The legendary hero and the priest Heiter are now an elderly pair, and although Eisen maintains some of his skill, the years have not passed in vain and he gets tired easily.
After several days of travel and many memories, the night of the meteor shower arrives. For Himmel, it is the culmination of his dreams, and shortly after, his own life.
Finally, upon seeing her lifeless friend, Frieren begins to understand the fragility of life, and she regrets not making an effort to get to know her friend better.
Heiter tells her that this is life, at least that of human beings, and invites her to visit him when she has time.
Frieren asks Eisen to accompany her again on her trips, but he tells her that even if he wants to, his body is not the same as it was years ago.
Again, after the passing of the years, Frieren decides to visit Heiter, who has now retired, and takes care of Fern, an orphan who lost her parents in one of many wars.
Heiter knows that he does not have many years left to live, and takes the opportunity to ask Frieren to take care of Fern, who apparently has an affinity to become a magician.
Frieren refuses, and tells him that she would not want to expose her to losing her life in a dangerous job. Heiter understands, and instead asks her to teach her how to handle her magical abilities.
Witnessing the girl’s abilities, Frieren ends up taking her on as her apprentice.
