Reiko wakes up feeling very hot, and before getting ready for work, she eats a slice of watermelon while lighting and smoking a cigarette.
At 32, Reiko appears professional when she arrives at work, but she runs into her colleague Hajime, who doesn’t hesitate to play tricks on her every day.
She often has vision problems and uses eye drops developed by the same company that created the walled city called Kowloon out of thin air.
And when Hajime sees her, he tells her to stop using them, that he can’t trust that mysterious company at all. Instead, he tells her to get checked out by an optometrist.
After doing so, it turns out Reiko no longer needs her glasses, and during the day, Hajime tells her she sees better with them.
Later, Hajime tells Reiko that despite everything, Kowloon is a city full of traditions, with people genuinely happy to be around it.
He takes her to dinner at a very peculiar place, where Haijome is received with great hospitality. Reiko enjoys the dinner and begins to think they’re on a romantic date, although it doesn’t seem that way to Hajime at all.
Days later, Reiko can’t stop thinking about Hajime and begins to believe she’s in love, but when she looks at a photo in Hajime’s belongings, she’s surprised to see a woman just like her standing next to him.
Searching for an answer, Reiko begins searching for the restaurant where they had dinner to see if the manager knows more about this photo, and when she’s told that she is Hajime’s girlfriend, she simply can’t believe it.
