This is a society clearly divided by social class, in which the most fortunate live in opulence and do not hesitate to discard any belonging if it has any defects.
But to prevent waste from piling up, they have a system that stores and then dumps the trash into a forgotten pit underground.
Rudo is an orphan who does not hesitate to approach the guarded garbage dumps to get hold of some objects, which he tries to salvage to earn a few coins.
However, even among people living in the marginalized neighborhoods of the big city, Rudo is despised because his father was convicted of murder.
So it is not uncommon for other kids to pick fights with him whenever they see him mending things he’s found in the trash, and they accuse him because the authorities are keeping a closer eye on them because of what he steals.
What’s more, due to an accident, Rudo’s hands are blackened, so he prefers to wear old gloves given to him by his guardian, Regto.
However, amidst so many problems, Rudo feels fortunate because a girl named Chiwa usually defends him.
Thinking of her, Rudo rescues a stuffed rabbit, but before he can give it to her, Chiwa’s mother calls her.
Despite all the difficulties, Rudo is grateful that she and Regto care for him, and at all costs, he decides to honor and take care of them.
However, the day Rudo finally gives the rabbit to Chiwa, someone attacks Regto and ends up mortally wounding him.
Rudo appears at that moment, and Regto tells him to escape, but before he can move, the authorities have already arrested him, and immediately he is sentenced to fall into the pit where the garbage accumulates.
