What has the world come to, that an eco-terrorist group is holding various governments hostage?
At one point, the news reports that a laboratory has been attacked to free animals, including a chimpanzee about to give birth.
To everyone’s surprise, the offspring is different, and without understanding what kind of experiments took place, it turns out to be a hybrid of man and chimpanzee.
The discovery could shock society; however, for the next 15 years, Charlie is raised by an adoptive human family.
Being half human and half animal, Charlie constantly questions his existence while grappling with his instincts.
The day arrives when he is to attend classes at a high school, and his adoptive mother asks him not to climb trees and to concentrate on his studies.
Upon arrival, other students look at him with curiosity; after all, Charlie is well-known from various news reports about his existence.
Some look at him with curiosity, others with caution. Some remember how strong chimpanzees can be in their natural habitat.
Generally, Charlie remains unfazed, but when he hears some students outside arguing about a cat in a tree, he listens that someone has climbed up to rescue it.
And when he realizes that the branch where Lucy, a nerdy student, is sitting is about to break, Charlie doesn’t hesitate to jump from a window to support her firmly, but without hurting her.
Later, Lucy approaches him to talk, and she listens attentively as other students question Charlie about his vegan diet.
When someone tries to question his morals regarding an infected animal, and whether it should be killed to save others, Charlie doesn’t hesitate to say that it would be the right thing to do, but it would also be the right thing to do if a human were the source of the problem.
