These are troubled times, we cannot recover from the pandemic and distant turmoils continue in our world. Despite everything, as usual we hope for the best as the new year approaches, better times will come if all of us take action.
In terms of anime, the Winter Anime Season 2024 comes thin, compared to other years, hopefully the number of series is enough to entertain us.
Let’s start with heaven… and hell, as they continue their neverending battle. In Oroka na Tenshi wa Akuma to Odoru, Masatora is a demon who transfers to Earth to recruit charismatic humans to bolster the ranks and raise the morale of Hell. He is immediately drawn by Lily, however, she ends up being a sadistic undercovered angel who loves to hunt and torture demons. She puts a collar on him and forces Masatora to obey her. He plans to break free, and she plots to use him as a tool to change heaven.
In this world, the Demon King has perished, and powerful heroes want to determine who is the mightiest. In Ishura, a master fencer, a lancer, a wyvern, an all-powerful wizard, and an angelic assassin are eager to attain the title of “True Hero,” and won’t doubt to spark conflicts among themselves to achieve their goal.
Fighting evil is important, but no one does it like magical girls. In Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete, Hiiragi has always looked up to mahou girls and fantasized about transforming into one of the. One day, she is approached by a doll, who claims she has magical powers. Hiragi trembles in excitement, just to find out she has become a villain.
Then, after two supernatural forces appear on Earth, unique powers awake in women and they become the main defense for the world against dangerous monsters. In Mato Seihei no Slave, Yuuki watches the battle from a distance, but when he unexpectedly is rescued by Kyouka, she sees something special in him. Yuuki holds a unique power, but he will have to become Kyouka’s slave to join the fight.
In another world, Rentt is an adventurer without talent. In Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha, Rentt comes across an undiscovered path in the Labyrinth of the Moon’s Reflection, but a legendary dragon wastes no time swallowing him. Next, he wakes up as a pile of bones. Now, armed with nothing but his sword and tool belt, he sets off on a new quest, hoping to one day return to his human form.
Meanwhile, during a school trip, Yogiri wakes up to discover that everyone in his class has been transported to another world. In Sokushi Cheat ga Saikyou Sugite, Isekai no Yatsura ga Marude Aite ni Naranaindesu ga, he sleep through the entire ordeal, missing out on the powers bestowed upon by a mysterious Sage who transported them. Now, he and another classmate, Tomochika are abandoned, left as bait to distract a dragon. However, the monster doesn’t stand a chance against his secret power, Instant Death.
Back in our world, for a little while, Satou has been in love with Hime for many years. In Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari, now in high school, he is determined to confess to her, however, Hime tell him she will go back home to get married. Satou decides to follow her and ends up in another world. He crashes the wedding and his feelings are accepted, however, now he is destined to become a hero of immense power.
Then, on her 16th birthday, Himari has inherited a mansion called the “Momochi House.” In Momochi-san Chi no Ayakashi Ouji, this mansion is the only thing left by her real family, and pays no attention to the rumors that it is haunted. As soon as she enters, she meets Aoi and his companions, Ise and Yukari, who all seem to be squatting in her new home. They warn her to leave the house, but Himari vows to be the one to make them leave instead. Soon after, she is attacked by youkai and finds out that the house sits in the space between the world of the living and the spirit realm.
In another labyrinth we find Rud, who is searching for a wish granting treasure to cure his beloved sister from an illness. In Saikyou Tank no Meikyuu Kouryaku, Rud is kicked out from his party and decides to return home. On his way, he ends up saving Nin, attacked by a monster. Nin has a rare skill, that allows Rud to discover the truth behind his unknown skills, making him able to overcome any challenge in the future.
Rishe had her engagement to the crown prince annulled, but this is the seventh time it’s happened. In Loop 7-kaime no Akuyaku Reijou wa, Moto Tekikoku de Jiyuukimama na Hanayome Seikatsu o Mankitsu, she is stuck within a time loop, where no matter the job she takes or the location she lives, five years after the annulment, at the age of 20. she ends up dead. This time she catches the eye of Prince Arnold of the neighboring Hyne Kingdom, accepts to marry with one condition, to be allowed to have a lazy life.
Later, we meet Yumiella, an introverted college student and devout gamer, who was reincarnated as a hidden boss in an otome game. In Akuyaku Reijou Level 99: Watashi wa Ura Boss Desu ga Maou de wa Arimasen, Yumiella is determined to avoid her demise. All she wants is a nice, quiet life. However, once her gamer instincts kick in, she can’t ignore her awesome overpowered stats. And when everyone finds out, they get the wrong idea about her power, and they think she is a Demon Lord.
Finally we meet Ken, a normal high school student, who is summoned into another world alongside; Kazuki and Suzune, president and vice president of the student council. In Chiyu Mahou no Machigatta Tsukaikata, without any apparent talent, Ken is dejected and finds himself with no way to return. However, he finds out he has an affinity for healing magic, quite rare in this world. It gives him self confidence, and draws attention of other mages, and we all know not all attention is good.
