In a world filled with uncertainty, the future is sure to change completely in the next months. The pandemic crisis is not over, however, we have learnt to deal with it, climate change seems unavoidable, and it is set to complicate life for hundreds of millions.
Despite such a scenario, we still have a lot to feel thankful, and I am confident that despite everything, humanity will not stop persevering and seeking fair solutions for all.
Now, in terms of the Spring Anime Season 2023, at first glance, the season seems shorter, compared to the past years, but should be enough for us to find new characters and stories to have a good time.
First, in a world ruled by power and skill on magic, Mash was born without a trace of it. In Mashle, without magic, Mash makes up thanks to his physical abilities. Hi is proud of his fighting style: “Muscle Magic”, which uses his physical power to perform unpredictable moves, and aspires become a Divine Visionary, a title only given to exceptional students at the Easton Magic Academy, to show the world he can survive without magic.
Next comes Yukito, whose parents are the leaders of an extreme cult. In Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudou, after he is sacrificed, he reincarnates into another world where religion doesn’t exist, and once he tries to save his friend from being executed, he is killed again. However, to his surprise, the god of his previous religion shows up in this world and revives him.
Then, a legendary hero battles the corpse god necromancer, but something is wrong. In Dead Mount Death Play, at the final moments of their fight, the corpse god’s final gambit turns out to be reincarnation magic. After that, a boy named Polka awakens feeling different as the battle between good and evil continues.
Back in time, we meed Gabimaru, who was trained to kill from birth. In Jigokuraku, he plans to retire and live a normal life with his beloved wife and daughter. However, he is set up by his comrades and captured. Gabimaru is sentenced to be executed, but nothing seems to kill him due to his superhuman body. In exchange for his pardon, he will have to find the elixir of life on Shinsenkyo, a dangerous realm recently discovered.
In our world, we meet Kyoutaro a strange loner who spends his days dreaming up ways to disrupt his classmates’ peaceful lives. In Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu, Kyoutaro seems serious studying about torture and anatomy, and makes Anna, the class idol, his prime target. However, he finds out that she is quite a character, and they gradually become closer.
In the meantime, Ichirou became the support for his family once his parents passed away. In Otonari ni Ginga, Ichirou has helped raise his younger siblings wit ha small inheritance and his growing job as mangaka. However, his two assistants are leaving him with growing responsibilities and deadlines. At his limit, he is able to hire Shiori, who seems more than competent for the job, but something strange happens, when she claims they will get married.
In a far future, an unprecedented disaster destroyed modern civilization. In Tengoku Daimakyou, fifteen years later, a group of children live isolated from the outside world, described as hell. Mimihime predicts that a a couple persons will appear to save her friend Tokio, and that one of them looks exactly like her. In the outside, a boy named Maru is traveling the devastated country with Kiruko, and they are searching for Heaven.
Also in the future, otaku culture has been obliterated by a mysterious organization known as “SSC”. In Mahou Shoujo Magical Destroyers, a young man is sick and decides to become Otaku Hero, and he is not alone Anarchy, Blue, and Pink, a trio of magical girls who admire him join the revolution. Together they dream to create a world where you can say what you like, about what you like, as much as you like.
In another world, the King of the Beasts and Demons regularly receives female human sacrifices to eat in order to assert his dominance over the human race. In Niehime to Kemono no Ou, the 99th sacrifice, Sariphi, intrigues the Beast King. Somehow, she is not afraid of him or any other beast and has accepted her death without begging for her life. She does not have a home nor family to return, and The King decides to let her stay at his side despite being human.
Then in Japan, Hime is another selfish high school girl, who takes care of her image as a sweet and helpful person, however, deep inside, she only cares about herself. In Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto Desu!, one day she accidentally hurts Mai, a café manager, and in order to save her facade, she agrees to cover some of her shifts at work. She is drawn to another waitress at the café, who in front of the customers gives her devotion like she’s never known. But, behind the scenes, she seems to hate her guts.
Suddenly, a door opens, and Yuya has an option to change his life. In Isekai de Cheat Skill o Te ni Shita Ore wa, Genjitsu Sekai o mo Musou Suru: Level Up wa Jinsei o Kaeta, he has been bullied at school and even by his family, except for his grandfather. Yuya inherits a huge property from his grandfather, but his family forces him to live deep inside where he finds a door connecting with another world. Yuya decides to jump in and find the power to change his life forever.
Another guy who ends up in another world is Asahi, and he is actually thrilled to begin a journey of adventures. In Isekai One Turn Kill Nee-san: Ane Douhan no Isekai Seikatsu Hajimemashita, he believes that all his years playing video games will be useful, however, he ends up being really weak. But not his sister Maya, who has a powerful cheat that turns her immediately into a star.
Finally, we bump into Touzuke, who is known to be a hopeless loser, and it is not rare for him to receive a disgusted look as he walks by. In Rokudou no Onna-tachi, sick of his life, he decides to use an ancestral scroll passed down in his family. Apparently, it is capable of subduing all demons, however, once he uses it, he begins to attack the attention of all sort of bad girls.
