Hiroto has just arrived on an island where there is a very peculiar school system, in which not everyone can survive.
In addition to the academic part, students are forced to constantly compete through games and bets. And their grades are weighted to sort them at the end of the day.
Those with the best performance can earn stars, and the most extraordinary can accumulate seven.
On his first day, Hiroto wanders around the island, not knowing the correct location of his new school. On his way he runs into a pretty girl named Sarasa, who kindly gives him directions.
Seeing him confused, Sarasa decides to accompany Hiroto to her school. They both talk happily, until the time they pass by a park, and the irrigation sprinklers start working and soak Sarasa.
She is immediately upset and tells Hirito that this is not the way to request a duel. Hiroto does not understand what she says, but in an instant they begin to be surrounded by spectators, and many recognize Sarasa as the best qualified in the whole island.
Sarasa’s anger is not justified, and with great luck, Hiroto ends up defeating her, and consequently, the girl’s stars are transferred to him.
Upon arriving at his school, his new principal, Natsume, explains what just happened, and the meaning of the stars he has just earned. Above all, one in particular, that she owned years ago, the one allowing its owner to cheat the system and gain an advantage during duels.
She also tells him that Sarasa represents a powerful group, and warns him that she will surely be challenged constantly from that day on.
Despite wanting nothing to do with these power struggles, Hiroto is forced by Natsume to take on the role of being an experienced and unscrupulous player.
Later, as Hiroto walks down the street, he is intercepted by Sarasa, who asks him not to divulge her secrets. Hiroto thinks to knows everything, but she begins to confess a lot more information. That she has nothing to do with the famous family that everyone fears, and that she has been lying, thanks to the star that now belongs to Hiroto.
In return, he has no problem confessing to her that he does not know the rules of the island, and that he did not know her secrets either until she confessed them herself.
From that moment on, both of them have the need to take care of each other’s secret, and they decide to continue lying, to stay safe.
