In childhood, boys often make cruel jokes towards those people they consider different, and on some occasions, they can leave you devastated.
Fortunately for Akane, once she enters fifth grade, her life changes radically. All because Taiyou, a new student, has set his eyes on her.
On the first day, Taiyou listens closely as other boys refer to Akane as the grim reaper, and even avoid her path, saying that she has some kind of curse.
It seems incredible to him to have such a cool nickname, without understanding that in reality the children do it to harass her and push her away from her.
Without hesitation, Taiyou approaches Akane and tells her that it is awesome to be called grim reaper. She doesn’t understand if he’s serious, but as she talks to him she realizes that his feelings are genuine.
As the days go by, Taiyou continues to interact with Akane, and doesn’t hesitate to ask her to walk home together. Some of his classmates come over to invite Taiyou to play, but when they tell him that Akane isn’t invited, Taiyou naturally declines, without creating any confrontation.
As they walk towards Akane’s house, Taiyou takes the hand of her new friend, not caring about the rumors that might arise later.
Akane is somewhat confused, she had never been told that all the adjectives she receives every day can be a compliment if you think about it carefully.
And her surprise is huge when Taiyou tells her that they are already friends with her, after all, she has had to lie to her father many times, assuring him that she has friends, when she has none.
Later, during a physical education class the kids play dodgeball and Akane becomes everyone’s first target, but Taiyou decides to defend her and ends up with a strong blow and on his way to the infirmary.
Akane worries about Taiyou, but fears that he might be teased because of her. Finally, Taiyou gets out the room and sees Akane waiting for him outside, he simply tells her that she should have come in a long time ago, that he really likes to talk and know her better.
